Curl began as an MIT project and was intended as a web-content language to replace HTML + JavaScript + CSS. The language was designed to have the declarative approach of HTML and to offer the object-oriented appoach as well. This allows applications to evolve from prototypes for proof-of-concept to industrial-strength component packages which run in the browser or on the desktop. Curl 7.0 now has opensource libraries available at sourceforge.net and provides interfaces to SQLite and to Adobe BlazeDS. The Curl language has facilities for embedding Curl in HTML or running applications on the desktop. From the beginning, Curl was designed for enterprise security. Curl code can be digitally-signed and access to local resources can be made unavailable. But Curl also permits the specification of cross-domain access and local client-side persistent data. Curl was designed for asynchronous data loads long before AJAX was a buzzword. Today you can choose to use Curl itself as your data format or XML or Adobe AMF. Curl for RIA helps to build "fit" Rich Internet Clients for secure Rich Internet Applications which integrate well with J2EE and other server-side frameworks. Curl on the desktop allows the design of smart, secure, site-specific browsers, including those intended to track training compliance. LogiqueWerks' site-specific browsers in Curl even permit the viewing of confidential documents with a minimized risk of copying, forwarding or other violations of confidentiality. Curl 7.0 offers in-memory databases with SQLite and interfaces with both JSON and JavaScript.
